Advanced Surface Technologies
Benchmarks in gravure printing
Jagenberg Converting Solutions develops customized turnkey gravure printing concepts. Our expertise and our wealth of ideas in the pre- and post-treatment and drying of web materials also set new standards in printing.
On film and on paper: Jagenberg Converting Solutions is breaking new ground. Conventional gravure printing presses are very difficult to adapt to future changes in the production process and changing market requirements.
As a general contractor, JCS combines all the expertise of state-of-the-art surface production lines under one roof:
- Project management
- Technical management
- Technological development
- Turnkey delivery
Areas of Application and Services:
- Rotogravure printing
- Lacquering
- Coating
- Drying
- Substrate pre- and post-treatment
- Integration of customer-supplied materials
- Modernization and expansion of existing systems (also third-party products)
Efficient and flexible printing units:
- Modular and flexible design

To ensure a consistent print base and quality, our coating units are able to pre-treat a wide variety of substrates.
Our modular gravure printing unit is at the heart of our individual printing concepts. The integration of a wide range of processes makes the printing and primer application unit extremely flexible, e.g., in combination with base cylinders with or without chambered doctor blades in the function as multi-stage roller application units and much more.
Drying technology - as unique as your products
Selecting the optimum drying method requires in-depth knowledge of the substrates and liquids to be dried. Paper reacts differently to heat than film, water-based inks differently than acrylics.
Depending on the requirements and the desired finish, various drying processes and systems are available:
- conventional hot air drying
- IR drying
- NIR drying
- Hybrid drying
Disadvantages of conventional convection drying systems rethought.
Supplement or replace with electric heating systems or radiation drying on NIR/IR basis (near infrared/infrared).
Advantages of the new drying technologies
- Fast heating and drying times
- Short web paths in the system
- Use of different energy sources (gas, thermal oil, electricity)
- Low drying temperatures for film operation
- Increased efficiency thanks to intelligent control technology
How the hybrid drying process works
The hybrid drying process uses radiation boosters that rapidly heat the substrate. This thermal air drying effectively removes humidity and controls paper expansion or shrinkage. Through intelligent air management we are also able to achieve a sustainable and efficient use of energy, i.e., only required air is exchanged.
